My Favorite Yarn Stores

I buy entirely too much yarn, and my standards are pretty high. I love hunting for the most beautiful colors, unique fiber blends, and I can never resist yarn you can’t buy anywhere else! Lots of people ask me where I find it all, so I thought I’d share links to my favorite stores in the UK and the US — all of whom ship!

Beautiful Knitters — Pimlico, London, UK

Simultaneously (slightly) off the beaten path and steps away from central London, Beautiful Knitters is a charming shop full of warmth and unique, lovely yarn. It’s where I discovered chroma nima’s incredible cashmere for the first time, and it’s where to buy Knitting For Olive in the UK.

Beautiful Knitters also ships if you’re not able to get to their shop, but if you are, check out Peko Peko Pedlar just around the corner for coffee (or hot chocolate) and a croissant!

A Verb For Keeping Warm — Oakland, California USA

Verb is an incredible store that almost exclusively stocks their own yarn that’s dyed in house, as well as house-dyed fabric and sewing notions. I love their indigo-dyed colorways, and there’s no finer yarn for Beanie No. 6 than their Lambkin.

Tribe Yarns — East Neuk of Fife, Scotland

I consider Tribe to be one of my local yarn stores, despite the fact that Milli moved the store from London to Scotland before I started knitting here in the UK. Tribe offers prompt and reasonably-priced shipping in the UK, and has been doing their best to continue to offer the same worldwide— despite constantly changing shipping regulations and tariffs!

Tribe is the place I go when I’m looking for the super-versatile and super-luxe Merino Cloud by artyarns, and it’s my local(ish) fix whenever I’m looking for all things yak.

Atelier Yarns — San Francisco and Marin County, California USA

When I go to San Francisco for work, visiting Atelier’s San Francisco store is the thing I look forward to most. Besides being a stockist of one of my favorite cashmeres, Jade Sapphire, they sell a ruthlessly-curated collection of some of the most unique, exciting yarns I’ve ever come across. I always end up playing yarn chicken with their exclusive Freia Handpaints Merino Silk Ombre, but I can’t stop buying it! And because they ship worldwide, I don’t have to wait for a work trip.

The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers — Great Falls, Montana USA

I’ve never visited this one in person, but since it’s in my hometown, I very much want to! Another place that specializes in their house-dyed and house-spun yarns, my favorite is their Bear Paw DK— a luxe and drapey merino/yak/silk blend. For non-superwash fans, I’ve worked with their Pishkun yarn and adore it too!

Not only does FDF ship worldwide, they offer a virtual shopping service as well— something that was MASSIVELY helpful when I was trying to source the right shade of blue yarn for my husband’s anniversary blanket!
